Good morning to all,
WINTER RULES
As from tomorrow, Tuesday 2nd October we will be adopting preferred lies on our course. This applies to the FAIRWAYS ONLY and follows EG guidelines, ie; A player may mark and lift a ball, clean it and replace it within 6 inches of the marker, no nearer the hole. At this time the course fairways are quite easily defined and therefore there are no local rules in operation presently regarding tree line on the back 9. We will monitor the situation as the winter progresses and amend any local rules as and when deemed necessary. Relief without penalty may still be taken due to any abnormal course conditions with the agreement of your playing partners.
In the meantime, should you or your playing partners be in any doubt as to whether you are on the fairway or not then DO NOT TAKE RELIEF BUT PLAY YOUR BALL AS IT LIES. You may continue to lift a ball in a bunker ONLY if in a rut/footprint/pawprint etc, smooth out the sand below and replace it without penalty. You must NOT clean your ball whilst doing this.
The local rules for winter will be posted in the clubhouse this week prior to any competitions being played.
RESULTS
Gold & Silver Medal competition W/e 29th September
As I’m sure you most of are aware, the vandals on their quad bikes returned on early Saturday evening and damaged the course again, in particular the 17th green. After a few groups had already tee’d off on Sunday the green keeper came over to the first and announced that the 17th hole was closed. Fortunately since the WHS updates announced in April we were able to still run the competition over 17 holes. The competition results on howdidido reflect the scores over the 17 holes but WHS integrity has been maintained and they have updated your playing records based on “expected score” from your playing history. At least we know now that the new algorithm works and as we enter the winter period we will have the option to still play club competitions if holes have been shut.
The Gold Medal was won by Andy Scott with a net 61 beating Peter Robinson into second with a net 64 and Chris Nash coming in third with a net 66.
The Silver Medal was won by Dave Burgess with a net 62. Chris Donovan finished second just beating Nigel Hammond on countback, both scoring net 68.
For the first time that I can recall, no birdie balls were won in either competition. Well played and Many congratulations to the winners !
