Very unusually the council took the decision to close the course again at 7.00am this morning. We have very limited information but can only assume that all the rain yesterday forced their hand. We have been told by the starters hut that they will carry out an inspection on Friday and decide whether or not to reopen for the weekend. Apologies to those of you that turned up to play the mid week medal today.

We managed to play the Turkey Trot last weekend albeit only over the two days due to the previous closure. It was a very close run thing but Jamie “Beef” Montgomery came out on top just pipping Lee Porter on count back, both with 41 stableford points. Very well played to you both. Colin Wyatt finished third with 39 points. There were prizes of a £50 bar voucher to the winner and a £25 voucher to the runner up. “Beef” generously donated half his winnings to the Captains charity.

Lowest gross score was Mick Edmunds with a 75. Birdie balls were won by Jarrod on the 1st along with Jamie and Dan Clement on the 12th.

We have rescheduled today’s cancelled mid week medal for next Wednesday, 27th December. We will have our usual Wednesday tee times from 7.30. I know there are a good number of players that had already booked mid morning tee times for that day as well and they have indicated that they will play in the Medal. As long as the course opens and remains open it should be a good turnout.

The sign up sheet for this has been on the board for a little while now and has started filling up nicely. The sheet will be left up until New Year’s Day and then taken down. We are aiming to do the draw after golf on Sunday 7th January. Please ensure you have paid your £4.00 entries or your names won’t be entered.

Colin and Kevin tell us that most members have now renewed and they are expecting a few more over the next week or two. Providing you have renewed by 10th January you will automatically be entered in to this competition. We are aiming to do the 1st round draw after golf on Sunday 14th January. I know that not everyone wants to play in this competition, so If you would prefer not to be put in to the draw then please message me and let me know.

It is a great honour and pleasure for me to represent you all as Captain of our club. Anita and I would very much like to wish you all a very happy and peaceful Christmas and very best wishes for the new year.

Many thanks to Tony Pegrum for generously designing, sourcing and donating these Southend Golf Club tees. They are being sold to raise money for the Captains charity, Scotty’s little soldiers. Packs of 10 for £2.50 or 2 packs for £4.00. 100% of proceeds go to the charity. They are available directly from Chris or from Bucko behind the bar.

That is everything this week I hope !

On behalf of myself and all of the committee, we thank you for your continued support and wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year !
