Good morning to all.

Unfortunately due to ongoing issues with club v1 updates, results have been a little slower than usual. This is only a temporary and intermittent issue which will be fine going forward.

A number of members have asked me about the proposed upcoming changes. I have been following their announcements and this is my view of how it will affect our members.

When WHS was introduced we were all encouraged to register to a platform called HowdidiDo. Many members use it to catch up on results or to sign in and submit scores for club competitions, mainly on their mobile phone app. As I’m sure you are aware, they have been advertising over the past few months that they have been redesigning the mobile app from the ground up and that the new version will now be available to users of other platforms such as intelligolf.

At some point in January the new version will launch and the current version will eventually be discontinued. You will probably be asked to re-register for the new one (with your current log in details) .THIS WILL NO LONGER BE A FREE APP ON YOUR PHONES. The charges are going to be £2.99 per year or £9.99 per year for an Ad free version.
If you don’t use your phone to sign in to comps etc then you don’t actually need it. I’m not sure how many of you are aware that you can sign directly in to the web based version on your pc’s or other devices. The web based version has all your same personalised information and stats etc and will still remain completely free of charge (no Ad free version though)

Also worth bearing in mind that should you want to sign in for general play rounds on your phone / mobile device then England Golf’s own free app is there for that purpose and is actually our own Essex golf union’s preferred method.

Of course if your’e happy to just carry on with HowdidiDo and pay the subscription that’s fine. This is something for individual members to decide, the club has no control over it and you will all have make your own preferred choices.

RESULTS
Sorry to start with a moan but we still have members that are not returning cards to the box after competitions. IT IS A RULE OF COMPETITIONS THAT A SIGNED CARD WITH MARKERS NAME AND SIGNATURE AND A CORRECT DATE STAMP ON FROM THE STARTERS HUT IS RETURNED.
Apart from breaking the rules it causes extra work for the volunteers that give up their time to run things on your behalf.
I will point out that in the December monthly medal Mick Schofield, Iain McEwan and Paul Telling were all DQ’d for not returning cards. If you have NR’d or gone off injured or for any other reason it makes no difference, your card is required or at least a prompt message as to why not in exceptional circumstances. Going forward, no birdie balls or merit points will be awarded to anyone failing to return cards and repeat offenders will leave themselves open to the possibility of suspension from club competitions for a period of time.
