Hello to all,

Thank you

As we enter the second half of our golfing year and I was looking at the July fixtures, it struck me just how much we have achieved so far this year. For a club of our size we have been very busy. Behind the scenes there have been a lot of improvements to the premises themselves, much of which is carried out by volunteers as well as outside contractors. Well done and thank you to Brett for completing the lockers. There has also been a lot of effort put in by the committee into trimming our outgoings to keep running costs to a minimum.

As well as our own club competitions, and the spring Roger Foreman match, we have also had individuals organising extra events to enhance our experience at SGC. Dave Seymour has organised the now annual match against Ballards Gore for the King Charles cup, Paul Eley and Colin Jarman arranged a midweek match (Bandidos Vs Federalis) against the Boyce Hill Police society and most recently Chris Kirby has rekindled an old fixture against Castle Point Gas & Heating Golf society, which we hope will now remain on our calendar.

All of these events have been extremely well attended and play a big part in bringing vital revenue through the bar.
Guest day was quite challenging this year with over 100 players in attendance during the day and some more guests in the evening. All the usual suspects pulled together behind the scenes to make the day work and hopefully resulted in everyone having a good time. I know the Captain personally thanked all those that helped put it together but special thanks to Sarah Chapman and Lynn Kirby for spending the day preparing and marshaling the lunch time food, Bucko and Carleigh for their long day and efforts with the bar and the morning bacon rolls and Jules and Nigel for a great job on the the BBQ and of course Dave Burgess and band for providing the live music. Also to club stalwarts and ex Captains Paul and Brian Kreyling (and guests) for stepping up and rescuing me when the 7.30 14th tee was sprung on me the afternoon before.

Despite not being the face of competitions any longer, Chris Snell continues to both support me and work tirelessly on behalf of our club in so many different roles.

Sometimes it’s very easy to criticise the way things appear but we have no paid staff and everyone that chips in does so voluntarily with the best of intentions to keep our great club going.

So all in all, a BIG thank you to everyone and their helpers involved in all the work and effort that goes in to making our club the success that it is and to all of you, the members that support these events and make them worthwhile.

NORMAN PLUM MATCH – SUNDAY 22ND
Unfortunately we came up against a very good side from Woolston Manor on Sunday and were knocked out of the competition.

Many thanks to Dan Clement for Captaining and running the team this year and congratulations to all the players that took part on some great wins, a superb effort from all.

FIXTURES
This Saturday 28th is the Captain & Vice’s 3 club challenge as previously advertised and then changed. To confirm, it is 3 clubs only, your choice if you make one of those a putter. Unfortunately we don’t have the concession for this competition any longer and we know this is going to affect numbers so we will see how it goes before making a decision whether to carry on with it in future. By way of a compensatory gesture, there will be no entry fee though you will still collect competition merit points and can win birdie balls. (We do need min eight players to validate the competition)

KINDRED FINALS – SUNDAY 29TH ROCHFORD GC
Good luck to Brett Kilgour/Phil Sanford, Barry Ball/Paul Telling, Tony Pegrum/Tony May and Jorge/ Clive Jones on Sunday. Enjoy the day representing our club and play well.

11th/12th/13th July – July Monthly Medal
16th July – Fred Gates Midweek Stableford
19th/20th July – Club Championships
23rd July – Midweek Medal
25th/26th/27th July – The Presidents Cup

SUMMER FOUR BALL COMPETITION
As advertised the sign up sheet was taken down last night and entry is now closed. The draw was conducted through the club V1 system and is on the button below. (sorry about the format) We will endeavour to get the sheet printed and up on the notice board quickly but in the meantime feel free to get played if you can regardless of which round you are in.

You’ll be glad to hear that’s all for now, enjoy your golf !
